Die to Rise | Matthew 6:33

We are a global brotherhood of men seeking first his kingdom.

Men are starving for meaning. Homes need husbands and fathers who lead with love and truth. The world needs peacemakers who carry the name of Jesus. This is where vertical men are forged and come together as a formation, globally under Christ, without regard for denomination. We are united in Christ and Christ alone, to be chosen vessels, used for His purpose.

The Vertical Calibration – 1

Die To Rise

You cannot rise while clinging to the man you were. Die to the greatest weapon of mass destruction known to man… YOURSELF; that is your FLESH σάρξ (sarx). Die to the lies that defined you. Die to the chaos that ruled your home. Die to the weakness that kept you passive and in hiding. Only then do you rise, vertical under God, anchored in Christ, leading with power and legacy.

– Romans 8:13

The Vertical Calibration – 2

“But Seek First His Kingdom And
His Righteousness → And All These
Things Will Be Added To You.”
– Matthew 6:33

Every fractured man is a man with a disordered pursuit. He chases what he should receive and neglects what he should chase. Matthew 6:33 is the great reorientation; the moment a man stops striving horizontally and stands vertical under God. When the Kingdom comes first, identity clarifies, order emerges, strength is granted, and legacy takes root.

The Vertical Calibration – 3

This Is The Vertical Calibration That
Governs Every Pillar, Pathway, And
Practice.

SHEM asks who you are, but the answer flows from whose you are.
SEDER establishes household order, but the pattern is the Kingdom.
GEVURAH forges power, but the source is the Spirit.
NACHALAH secures legacy, but the inheritance is eternal.
Every pillar stands on this single foundation.
Every pathway leads back to this truth.
Every practice is measured against this standard.
Seek first, everything else finds its place.

THE VERTICAL DIRECTION

The Vertical Mission

Your journey starts and grows upward from here

The Vertical Man is a brotherhood built on one conviction: men weren’t meant to live horizontally; scattered, passive, and unmoored. We stand upright under God, calibrated by a single command: Seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness. From this vertical posture, everything else finds its place.

We recover our true identity, establish order in our households as priests who lead with sacrificial presence, cultivate Spirit-rooted power, and build legacy, covenant lineages that carry the faith forward. This is not a program. It is a life. We surrender fully and run toward a world desperate for men who will not bow to anyone other than the King of Kings.

What does the journey look like?

Four stages. INITIATION awakens your true identity. CALIBRATION restores order to your habits and home. ACTIVATION forges strength and courage to face real battles. ASCENSION secures your legacy so God’s divine plan through every man blesses generations.

How do we do it?

We live and train FOUR PILLARS, drawn from the priesthood language of scripture, and disciple men to rise up in righteousness through biblical and spiritual frames that empower men through brotherhood in harmony with the Spirit everyday of every year until He returns to us or we go to Him. This is a lifetime journey of connection, oneness, and transformation.

Why does it matter?

Because men are starving for meaning, homes need husbands and fathers who lead with love and truth, and the world needs peacemakers who carry the name of Jesus. We don’t chase what the world chases (replaced pagans with world). We seek first his kingdom, and everything else finds its place.

What will men do?

ENTER the brotherhood. Take a 2- minute diagnostic and understand quickly your weakest PILLAR. For 30 days, walk with leaders and brothers; one DAILY action, one WEEKLY council that will begin a transformation journey that will transform your internal world and the world that God has charged you to be the steward of. As men we will stand under the vertical relationship with Yahweh God, bring order to our homes, fight with holy power, and build a legacy that outlives ourselves in Him.

THE VERTICAL IDENTITY

The Vertical Logo

Where Theology Becomes Structure

The Vertical Man isn’t just a name—it’s a posture, a position, and a picture of what God intended from the beginning. The logo shows a man standing upright in the shape of a cross, crowned by his identity in Christ and extended through four Kingdom pillars. At the crown sits SHEM (Identity)—where Spirit and Heart fuse to form the living soul. From that vertical connection flows everything else.

The right arm reaches into SEDER (Order), establishing righteous leadership in your home. The left extends into GEVURAH (Power), building strength to endure and fight. The foundation rests on NACHALAH (Legacy), securing covenant that spans generations. This is divine architecture: Spirit gives life, life orders your house, order births power, power secures legacy. You’re called to stand vertical—rooted in Christ, extended in Kingdom purpose. That’s the man you’re becoming.

Spirit + Heart give Life

Life orders the House

Order births Power

Power secures Legacy

Legacy glorifies God

THE VERTICAL FOUNDATION

The Four Kingdom Pillars

Tables made of the strongest wood will fall if built on but three legs

The kingdom life is built on four pillars. Ancient Hebrew foundations that shape every dimension of masculine formation. SHEM recovers the name God gave you before the world distorted it. SEDER establishes the order your household was designed to carry. GEVURAH forges the strength to stand when everything pushes you to bow. NACHALAH secures the legacy that will speak when you are gone. Together, these four pillars hold the weight of a life oriented toward the Kingdom.

PILLAR ONE

Identity
ם שֵׁ (Shem)

Who You Are

Triad: Shem (Name/Essence) · Tzelem (Image) · Nephesh (Soul)

Aim: Men know whose they are, who they are, and why they’re here – sons, husbands, fathers, leaders under God.

Before you can lead anyone, you must know who you are. SHEM is the recovery of your God-given name and true identity in Christ.

PILLAR TWO

Order
שֵׁר (Seder)

How You Lead

Triad: Torah (Instruction) · Mishpat (Justice) · Shalom (Wholeness)

Aim: Homes, habits, finances, marriage, and
fatherhood arranged according to God’s Word to produce peace and flourishing.

Your home and habits reveal your theology. SEDER establishes systems of order across marriage, parenting, money, and time.

PILLAR THREE

Power שֵׁה גְְְּּּ
(Gevurah)

How You Fight
Triad: Chayil (Valor) · Oz (Strength) · Netzach (Enduring Victory)

Aim: Spiritual authority + disciplined body/spirit; prayer, Scripture, warfare, and resilience under pressure.

Every man faces temptation, conflict, and crisis. GEVURAH forges resilience, discipline, and spiritual authority to stand firm.

PILLAR FOUR

Legacy ה
(Nachalah)

What You Leave
Triad: Berith (Covenant) · Zera (Seed) · Dor
(Generation)

Aim: Covenant faith and wisdom passed to
children’s children—name, discipleship,
stewardship, and generational impact.

A vertical man does not live for himself. NACHALAH builds covenant relationships and secures a legacy that outlives you.

The Pathway

The Four Stages of Kingdom Pillars

Vertical formation unfolds in four stages, each one anchored to a Kingdom Pillar. Initiation awakens identity—breaking lies and receiving your God-given SHEM. Calibration restores order—establishing SEDER in your home, habits, and household rhythms. Activation forges power—training GEVURAH for spiritual warfare, resilience, and courageous leadership. Ascension secures legacy—stewarding NACHALAH through discipleship, generosity, and multigenerational vision. Together, these stages form a twelve-month journey from awakening to multiplication, from receiving your name to passing it on, from standing vertical under God to raising sons and brothers who will do the same.

THE VERTICAL OPERATING SYSTEM (VOS)

The Living Framework Model

This is not layers.

This is not circles floating in space.

This is a Temple Structure.

Because biblically, transformation happens in a temple.

The Apostle Paul said:

“Do you not know that you are God’s temple?” — 1 Corinthians 3:16

The VOS is a Temple of Formation INSIDE every living man.

1️⃣  FOUNDATION — THE FOUR KINGDOM PILLARS

These are immovable. Non-negotiable.

They are the load-bearing structure of a man’s life.

They are not habits.

They are not practices.

They are not emotions.

They are realms of responsibility.

▪ Kingdom Identity — Who You Are Before God

▪ Kingdom Order — How You Think & Align

▪ Kingdom Power — How You Discipline & Fight

▪ Kingdom Legacy — What You Build & Multiply

If one pillar cracks, the temple tilts.

These are the structural supports of everything else.

2️⃣ THE FIRE INSIDE THE TEMPLE — THE FIVE FLAMES

The pillars hold the structure.

The flames determine whether it is alive.

The flames burn inside the pillars.

If the pillars are neglected, the flames flicker.

If the pillars are strong, the flames refine.

🔥 Spirit (Identity)

🔥 Heart (Identity)

🔥 Mind (Order)

🔥 Body (Power)

🔥 Soul (Legacy)

The flames are not structure.

They are refinement forces.

They are what God purifies daily.

3️⃣ THE DAILY ASCENSION — THE ALTAR

Inside the temple is the altar.

The altar is where fire is maintained.

The Daily Ascension is the altar ritual.

Every morning a man:

  • Tends Identity
  • Aligns Order
  • Strengthens Power
  • Builds Legacy

If the altar goes cold, the temple decays.

The Daily Ascension is not optional.

It is how the system stays alive.

4️⃣ THE TRANSFORMATION ARC — THE GROWTH PATH

Every man who enters VOS walks a progression:

Initiation → Calibration → Activation → Ascension

This is not daily structure.

It is developmental movement.

It is how a man matures through the system.

5️⃣ THE KINGDOM SEQUENCE — THE FLOW OF LIFE

Identity produces Order.

Order produces Power.

Power produces Legacy.

Legacy reinforces Identity.

This is cyclical.

Not linear.

It is spiritual ecology.

🔁 HOW THE VOS INTERACTS (Practical Life View)

Here is how a real man experiences it:

Morning

He enters the temple (Daily Ascension).

He tends the altar (4 Pillars).

He refines the flames.

During the Day

Decisions filter through the Pillars:

  • Is this aligned with my Identity?
  • Is this ordered by the Word?
  • Does this strengthen or weaken my Power?
  • Does this build Legacy or destroy it?

The framework becomes an internal compass.

During Conflict

He diagnoses breakdown by pillar:

  • Marriage tension? → Identity or Order breach.
  • Emotional volatility? → Heart flame neglected.
  • Lack of discipline? → Power flame weak.
  • Lack of influence? → Legacy flame dormant.

The VOS becomes diagnostic.

Over Years

The ARC moves him upward.

He becomes:

  • A priest in Identity
  • A steward in Order
  • A warrior in Power
  • A leader in Legacy

The system evolves him.

🧠 SIMPLIFIED VISUAL MEMORY MODEL

If we reduce it to something unforgettable:

The Temple Has:

4 Pillars (Structure)

5 Flames (Refinement)

1 Altar (Daily Ascension)

1 Pathway (ARC)

1 Flow (Kingdom Sequence)

That is it.

Nothing extra.

Nothing bloated.

🔥 Why This Is Elite

This is not motivational.

This is architectural.

It is biblical.

It is scalable.

It integrates:

  • Theology
  • Emotional intelligence
  • Physical discipline
  • Relational leadership
  • Generational impact

VOS builds consecrated men.

The Five Flames:

The Forces Within Every Man

When God breathed life into Adam, He ignited something eternal—a living soul with five distinct flames burning within. These aren’t abstract concepts or personality traits. They’re the core forces that make you fully alive as a man created in God’s image. Spirit. Heart. Mind. Body. Soul. When these flames burn together in balance, aligned under God’s authority, you don’t just survive—you stand vertical. You lead with wisdom. You fight with holy strength. You leave a legacy that echoes into eternity. But when even one flame flickers or burns out of control, everything else suffers. Your marriage. Your children. Your purpose. Your peace. The Vertical Man formation journey is designed to tend all five flames, bringing them into Kingdom alignment so you can become the man God created you to be.

Spirit – The Breath of God Within You

“Then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life…” (Genesis 2:7)

This is where it all begins—the Spirit flame is God’s own breath animating your existence. It’s not religious performance or spiritual achievement. It’s the recognition that you are alive only because He made you alive. When this flame burns strong, you know whose you are before you try to prove what you are. You pray with confidence, not because you’re eloquent, but because you’re His son. You read Scripture expecting to hear His voice. You make decisions from a place of divine clarity rather than worldly confusion. But when this flame dims, you start running on your own strength, chasing validation, and wondering why nothing feels sacred anymore. The Vertical Man keeps his Spirit flame burning by maintaining daily communion with the God who breathed him into being.

Heart – The Emotional Core That Drives Everything

“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it” (Proverbs 4:23)

Your heart isn’t weak—it’s the wellspring of your life. This is the emotional flame that processes loss, celebrates victory, connects with your wife, and teaches your children what healthy masculinity looks like. When this flame burns right, you’re not emotionally suppressed or emotionally chaotic—you’re emotionally mature. You can name what you feel without being controlled by it. You can grieve without shame and rejoice without pride. You can be strong and tender at the same time. But when this flame goes cold or rages out of control, you become either a stone or a storm—numb or explosive, neither of which your family needs. The Vertical Man guards his heart not by shutting it down, but by keeping it surrendered to the only One who can heal and refine it.

Mind – The Battlefield Where Truth Defeats Lies

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind…” (Romans 12:2)

Your mind is where the war happens. Every day, the world throws its patterns at you—what success looks like, what strength means, how a man should lead. And every day, you have to choose: will you think like the Kingdom, or think like the culture? When this flame burns strong, you’re not tossed around by every trend, opinion, or anxiety. You’ve trained your mind to filter everything through Scripture. You think clearly under pressure. You make decisions from wisdom, not reaction. You’re the man who pauses, prays, and then acts with conviction. But when this flame weakens, you start parroting the world’s definitions, chasing its approval, and living in constant mental chaos. The Vertical Man renews his mind daily, letting Kingdom truth reshape the way he thinks about everything.

Body – The Temple Where God's Glory Dwells

“Your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit… therefore glorify God in your body” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)

This isn’t about vanity or performance—it’s about stewardship. God gave you a body, and what you do with it matters. When this flame burns, you treat your physical existence as a sacred trust. You train your strength not to show off, but to serve. You discipline your appetites not out of legalism, but out of reverence. You sleep, eat, and move in ways that honor the One who made you. You’re ready for the physical demands of leadership, fatherhood, and spiritual warfare. But when this flame dims, you either abuse your body through neglect or obsess over it through pride. Neither glorifies God. The Vertical Man knows his body isn’t ultimately his own—it’s the place where Heaven’s purposes meet earth’s realities, and he stewards it accordingly.

Soul – The Relational Flame That Leaves Legacy

“Whoever would be great among you must be your servant…” (Matthew 20:26-28)

The soul flame is where your vertical connection to God becomes horizontal impact on others. This is the relational intelligence that makes you a faithful husband, a present father, a loyal brother, and a generous mentor. When this flame burns, you’re not climbing over people to get ahead—you’re laying your life down so others can rise. You love sacrificially. You listen deeply. You correct gently. You forgive freely. You build covenant relationships that last generations. But when this flame flickers, you become transactional, isolated, or self-serving. Your relationships become utilities rather than sacred bonds. The Vertical Man knows that true greatness isn’t measured by what you achieve, but by what you give away—and the soul flame is what turns a successful man into a significant one.

VERTICAL CREED

Seek first. Stand Vertical

I am a man of SHEM—a living soul, breathed into being by God and named before the foundation of the world. I am filled with the Spirit and ruled by love. I carry Heaven’s order in my house, Heaven’s strength in my body, and Heaven’s covenant in my name. I will not chase what the world chases. I will not bow to what the world worships. I will not build what the world builds. I will build what endures. I stand under God—not beside Him, not ahead of Him, but beneath His authority and within His care. Spirit in me. Heart within me. Brotherhood beside me. I seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness, trusting that all else will be added according to His word. I will live this way until death takes me home or the Kingdom comes in full.

I am a Vertical Man.

About Our Program Founder

Sean Gregory McDonald did not set out to build a global brotherhood of men. He set out to survive.

On March 27th, 2022, Sean lost his wife and partner of thirty-one years, the woman who had walked beside him through the building of a career, the raising of four children, and the quiet, sacred work of becoming who God called him to be. In the aftermath of that loss, Sean faced a choice that every grieving man eventually confronts: collapse inward, or stand upright under God and lead what remains.

He chose to stand.

What followed was not a program or a platform, it was a crucible. Sean leaned into decades of leadership forged in the trenches of business, where he had led teams of over a hundred people, managed multimillion-dollar operations, and learned that true authority flows not from title but from character. He drew on his theological training, his counseling background, and the hard-won wisdom of a man who had learned to seek first the Kingdom long before tragedy demanded it. And he discovered something in the ashes: the framework that had held him together, identity rooted in Christ, order restored to his home, power drawn from surrender, legacy secured for his children, was not unique to his story. It was the ancient architecture of biblical manhood. It was the blueprint every man was searching for.

The Vertical Man was born from that revelation. Sean now dedicates his life to walking alongside husbands, fathers, and leaders who sense that there is more, more depth, more purpose, more holy weight to carry and who refuse to chase what the world chases. He is not a guru. He is a fellow traveler, a man of SHEM who has tasted both devastation and resurrection, and who believes with everything in him that the men willing to die to themselves will rise to lead homes, fight for what is holy, and leave a covenant legacy that echoes for generations.

Sean is also the author of BEAUTIFUL: Love, Sex and Jesus, available on Amazon.

• TESTIMONIALS

Some success stories told from within the brotherhood

“I built a seven-figure business, but my house was falling apart. My wife and I were roommates. My kids didn’t respect me—they feared me, which I mistook for the same thing. I came to The Vertical Man thinking I needed better systems. What I discovered was that I had no SHEM. I didn’t know who I was apart from what I produced. The Initiation stage broke something open in me that I’d been sealing shut since childhood. For the first time in twenty years, I wept in front of other men—and they didn’t flinch. They prayed over me. Today my marriage is more intimate than our honeymoon. My teenage son asked me to disciple him. I thought I was building an empire. Now I’m building a legacy.”

— Marcus T., 47, Atlanta, GA

“I was 29 with two kids under five and absolutely drowning. I loved Jesus, but I had no framework for leading my home. My wife was exhausted, I was angry all the time, and I kept thinking: This can’t be what God intended. The SEDER pillar saved my family. Learning to bring order—not control, but actual order—to our schedule, our finances, our rhythms… it changed everything. The weekly Brotherhood Council kept me accountable when I wanted to quit. I’m not a perfect husband or father, but I’m a present one. I’m a praying one. And my home has peace now. Real peace.”
— Javier M., 31, Phoenix, AZ
“Fifteen years of pornography. Two affairs. A marriage hanging by a thread. I’d been through counseling, accountability software, prayer ministries—you name it. Nothing stuck. The Vertical Man didn’t just address my behavior; it went after the lies I believed about who I was. The Initiation stage helped me see that I’d been living out of a false identity for decades—an identity built on shame, performance, and self-medication. When I finally received my true SHEM, the chains didn’t just loosen—they fell off. GEVURAH training gave me the warfare tools I never had. I’m three years clean. My wife says she has a new husband. She’s right. The old one died.”
— Derek W., 42, Dallas, TX
“My kids are grown. My career is winding down. I thought my best years of impact were behind me. The Vertical Man showed me I was wrong. The Ascension stage opened my eyes to NACHALAH in a way I’d never considered—not just what I leave to my children, but what I leave in them. I’ve since started a discipleship covenant with my two adult sons. We meet monthly. I’ve written letters to my grandchildren they’ll receive when they turn eighteen. I’ve restructured my estate to fund Kingdom work for generations. I used to think legacy was about money. Now I understand it’s about multiplication. I may have fewer years ahead than behind, but the ones I have left will count for eternity.”
— William H., 61, Nashville, TN
“I’ve been in ministry for eighteen years. I’ve discipled hundreds of men. And I came to The Vertical Man completely empty. I knew how to teach the Word, but I didn’t know how to live it in my own home. My SEDER was a disaster—I gave my best to the church and my scraps to my family. The brotherhood here didn’t treat me like a pastor; they treated me like a man who needed to be rebuilt. That’s exactly what I was. The NACHALAH stage wrecked me in the best way—I realized I was building a ministry reputation instead of a generational legacy. I’ve since restructured my entire life around what will outlast me. My children will not inherit my burnout. They will inherit my blessing.”
— Timothy R., 51, Charlotte, NC
“I’m not a reader. I’m not a theologian. I work with my hands and I thought this program might be too ‘heady’ for me. I was wrong. The Vertical Man met me where I was. The daily rule fit my 5 AM schedule. The brotherhood calls happened on my lunch break. And the content wasn’t academic—it was practical. How to lead my wife without dominating her. How to discipline my kids without losing my temper. How to manage money like a steward instead of a spender. GEVURAH training taught me that real strength isn’t about being the toughest guy in the room—it’s about being the most surrendered. I’m a different man on the job site now. Guys have noticed. Two of them asked what changed. I told them: I learned how to stand vertical.”
— Carlos J., 38, Sacramento, CA
